Clinty's Weekly Blogs - Page 4 Empty Re: Clinty's Weekly Blogs

Post by Lady Bowyer Thu Mar 26, 2009 11:14 am

Hello friends, how is everyone? I'm doing pretty good. We've been busy here at the dirt shop working on our cars, but I just had some time to sit down and write a new blog. There has been a lot on my mind since Bristol and I had some thoughts I wanted to share.

I'm sure some of you watched the Legend's Race saturday night after my Nationwide race. I had been looking forward to it for a while, actually. Growing up racing motocross, my first heros were guys like Ricky Johnson, Jeff Ward, and Guy Cooper. I knew my Pops went to some NASCAR races, and I knew names like Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, and Rusty Wallace. And, I may have heard of guys like Cale Yarborough, Harry Gant, and Junior Johnson but I didn't know much about them. Well, that all changed when I began driving in NASCAR in 2004. I remember the first time I went to tracks like Darlington, Michigan, and Bristol. I would always stop in the hallways in the suites to look at the pictures of the old guys who had won during the track's history. And that is something I have paid a lot of attention to since I have been given this great opportunity - history. I never cared much for history in school, but I think racing history is very interesting and it gives me a good appreciation for what I get to do now.

Of course I took over the #33 this year. That number has been with me for a long time, it was on my YZ50 when I won my first moto at the Loretta Lynn Amateur National Championship Finals in 1988. But, way before that I remembered that Harry Gant wore that number on his Skoal Bandit car. My brothers and I had plastic NASCAR toy cars when we were little and my brother, Andy, had Harry's car. I wanted it because it had the cool bandit on it with the hanker-chief over his face. Haha, anyways, I stayed down on pit road after my Nationwide race to watch the legend's race. People were kind of looking at me funny because I was still in my driver's suit, but I didn't care, I was just hanging out. Then something really special happened. "Handsome" Harry Gant walked up to me and shook my hand. I was pretty nervous to be honest. He didn't say anything about me having his number, but I think he knows. We just talked like racers about his set up and how he would run.

It was so cool to see those guys out there racing. Some folks might not think that it was so much of a big deal, but you have to consider that guys like me have never even seen Junior Johnson or Harry Gant, much less watched them out there going for it. It really made the weekend cool. I wish we would have run better in the Cup race, but the boys worked hard and sometimes walking out of there with a top 15 is just fine.

We're excited about Martinsville. I've been getting better there and I'm looking forward to qualifying a little better this time around.

Thanks for reading!

Exactly - having a beer with them and shooting pool. Oooh, now that would be a night to remember. Wow.

Plus, just think, ladies - we get to watch them hold those long sticks and move them back and forth in-between their fingers while lining up to shoot.

Post by Lady Bowyer Mon Apr 13, 2009 1:13 pm

Hello, friends. Sorry I missed you last week, but I can tell you that it probably won't be the last time that happens! Like I say every week, "I'm busy!" Ha! No, really, sometimes the days just fly by and the next thing I know I'm sitting behind the wheel getting ready to go out for practice. Speaking of practice, when I went out for practice at Texas last weekend I sure did think we were going to be better than we ended up. Those big tracks can be frustrating. The difference between "fast" and "lap down" is so small I can't even tell you what it is. If I could, we would have won! But, hey, after seven races we're sitting 4th and the #33 RCR Cheerios/Hamburger Helper Impala still has some momentum rolling. Before we get to that, here is what I've been up to.

Last week my brothers and I did something really fun. We borrowed a tractor from Richard and started building a miniature motocross track for our pit bikes. My roots will always be in motocross and I still love to be on two wheels, dirt or asphalt. I won't spend much time, if any, on the motocross track because I have too many people counting on me, but I can still watch Casey and Andy crash themselves on it! Just kidding. We made it really safe, and it should be fun.

We also went and prepped the dirt go-cart track and let me tell you, Muddy Creek Speedway will be ready for the first big race of 2009 - as soon as all of this rain goes away for good. That is something that is a lot of fun and a lot of my friends at RCR come out and enjoy. #31 guys, #29 guys, #07 guys and #33 guys alike. Most of the boys on the teams were racers that never got that big shot and all of them are pretty fast! It gets pretty intense for a backyard BBQ, but that's the way we like it.

Other than that, I watched the NCAA championship game and I'm happy North Carolina won. Roy Williams used to be KU's head coach and my brother, Casey went to his camps several times when he was younger. Personally, I'm a Wake Forest fan (after the Jawhawks), because that's where I live and they are underdogs, like me. They got smoked early on, and after my Hawks lost, the only thing to root for was Roy, so congratulations!

I've also been keeping busy down at the dirt shop. My driver, Dale McDowell, has been getting closer and closer to his first win with my team and we're trying to help push him through to victory lane. He'll get there. Speaking of the dirt shop, something cool happened the other day when my crew chief, Shane Wilson, walked in to take a look. I thought that was really cool of him to do that and after showing him some stuff on the dirt side we sat down and talked about how we're going to run better on the mile and a halves. I'm big on communication, and little things like that make a big difference. At least I think so.

I'd rather be racing, but the off-week has been fun. We're excited about Phoenix and Talladega and everyone on the #33 team has been working hard.

I'll talk to you guys soon!

Oh my gosh, I hope he gets videos and/or pictures of him and his teammates racing!

That's awesome, at least they know how to keep themselves busy during the off weekends. Very Happy

Yay, RCR!
