New Sponsor, New Crew Chief, New Team???

We all know that Alltel will no longer be Ryan's main sponsor in the near future, but the real questions are - will Ryan switch teams, now that everyone's trying to recruit him? Will he do the right thing (in my and other Newman fans' opinions) and dump Roy for another crew chief? What are his new colors going to be, and what are we to do with the Alltel gear that we wear at the races and to sleep? Tim, I think the Johnsonville sponsorship idea shriveled up.

Seriously though. I heard that RCR and Hendrick are trying to grab him. I guess Hendrick wouldn't be so bad because at least he'd be teamies with Junior (hey, Drina!). I can definitely live with RCR, but would prefer JGR. After all, they're gonna most likely lose Tony once his contract's up and they only have 3 drivers as it is anyway.

One of my Ryan buddies likes the idea of either Mobil 1 or Kodak. I suppose I could get used to the gold and red car and firesuit. Whatever his decision is, you know that I'll be right there to grab his new gear!

maybe Hornish will get the boot? guess it depends on how well he does this year. seems like there are alot of openings for very few positions next season. will silly season be the silliest of them all?

I also read that Mr. Mears could possibly be getting the boot too. Which would make sense at to why Hendrick would be looking at Ryan.

Drina - yes, indeed; that's the most important thing. But now that I think about it, I DON'T want Chad to be his crew chief (like that would happen anyway, not with Johnson in the way). The first time I'd hear Chad curse or yell at Ryan I'd be all over Chad. And we all know that Ryan wouldn't put up with that shit anyway. He'd do the right thing and tell him off.

I do beleave the best thing for Ryan would be to leave Penski.Roger Penski eggs are in the INDY LEAGUE basket,which coincidently is who I route for in INDY.So best of luck to RYAN where ever he lands,but I'm still holding out for him to come to JGR.

Newman: Team performance must improve or he will not return to Penske
Ryan Newman has an agreement to revisit his latest contract offer with team owner Roger Penske after an undisclosed deadline, but said he will not return to his current NASCAR Sprint Cup team unless his No. 12 Dodge program shows significant improvement soon.

Newman’s season has been mostly a disappointment after he opened with a victory in the 50th Daytona 500. He’s 17th in points with five top-10s but four finishes of 30th or worse, two because of engine failures.

“It’s a performance issue,” Newman, 30, said at a pre-Coke Zero 400 media event at Kennedy

Space Center on Tuesday. “There’s no excuse. The other guys aren’t doing it. We shouldn’t either. We strive to be the best at everything, and we’re failing at that.”

Newman’s latest engine disaster led to a 42nd-place finish last week at Michigan. That second incident, he said, will impact his decision on whether to return to the team that gave him his start in NASCAR in 2000.

“Heck yeah,” said Newman, who has won 13 Cup races, eight in 2003 when he finished his career-best of sixth in for the second of three times. “Without a doubt. My goal is to be the best driver I can be and get the best results, wherever that is, whether it’s Penske Racing or any other place. I have to be fair to myself and my long-term goals and everything else, and Roger knows that. We’ve talked about that. It’s no secret. Sunday was obviously a step in a bad direction when it came to that.”

If my car were a piece of shit like his is right now, I'd be pretty demanding too. I mean, really, what do they expect him to say, "Hey, my car sucks and I'm not winning anything. I even have DNF's! I want to stick with this car forever."

Plus, Ryan's got others banging down his car. The man knows he's got options. So, they BETTER pick it up or they best be looking for a new face to put on their team.

But, regardless of whatever, the car will no longer look like this.

UPDATE: supposedly the deal is done, earlier Friday, a source close to the situation said that Chevrolet has agreed to terms with Joe Gibbs Racing to buy Tony Stewart out of his contract with the #20-Toyota Sprint Cup racing team. Stewart will indeed be making the move to Haas CNC Racing, a rumor that has been circulating for months. Supposedly Stewart’s new sponsor will be Office Depot and terms have been finalized regarding the impending sponsorship. In addition, Stewart will be joined by current #12 Penske Racing driver Ryan Newman, who would be sponsored by Burger King. No word yet on what car numbers the drivers will run and an announcement could come as early as next week at the Daytona International Speedway.( Captain Thunder)(6-27-2008)
